What's Happening Aboard Papagayo
The "Birthday Celebration Cruise" that had no wind. Bummer. Didn't seem to matter, however. These ladies know how to have a good time! It's also always fun to see returning crew mates.
What started out to be the one of the hottest and most sweltering days of the year, turned into one of the best days of sailing. It was still hot, but strong winds kept everyone comfortable. Great crew that took to sailing like old salts.
Great winds in the a.m. that died for a short time in early afternoon. Oh yes ... and then there was that storm. The crew handled it all very well.
A great bunch of students and a wonderful day on the water. You couldn't have asked for nicer winds with which to learn how to sail. Very nice.
Well this day was interesting. It was overcast, winds were very light and
it rained a little bit. Yet we were able to sail most of the day, though
only at about 2 kts. Nevertheless, our crew were great sports, we
heard some fun stories and had a good time.
A couple of repeat crew members and a newbie. Add a sunny day,
light to moderate winds and it all adds up to a lovely day on the water.
The final crew of the year. What a group! Have you ever heard of "Happy Tell Tales"? Well, this crew coined that phrase. Lots of laughs and good sailing. It was a nice way to finish off the season.
It's always nice to have repeat crew and their friends aboard. This was a fun group on a day with surprisingly good winds - and as an added bonus, two trips under the Route 3 Bridge by people who knew how to sail.
Nice winds in the a.m. with white caps moderating slightly in the p.m. Great day for sailing. We laughed through most of the day with this great crew, until the docking brought us back to reality. Whew. A fun day, nonetheless.
It was a hot one, but with winds out of the South at 10-18 all day, quite comfortable. These guys were having so much fun they refused to anchor for lunch. They just kept on sailing. Now that's commitment. A wonderful day.
Hottest day out this year. Upper 90's but, fortunately, with good winds. As for the crew, well they were great and creative. One of them named a new point of sail called 11:00 o'clock???
"Old people doing stuff" and two newbie sailors. Nice sailing in the morning, but it got hot in the afternoon. A really fun crew and we look forward to seeing them again.
Weak winds in the morning, followed by almost no winds in the afternoon. What a difference a day makes. A repeat crew member once again scored the high speed for the day. Great concentration Brenda, you can blink now.
Wonderful wind in the a.m. and p.m., cool temperatures under sunny skies. Nice folks enjoying a great day on the water. Loved those banana bread chocolate chip cookies.
Our two lovely English friends out for a "pootle" on the Rappahannock. Translation: Two Brits enjoying a sail on the Rivah!
Is aerosol cheese food a real food group, or a valid substitute for a flat tire inflator? A lot of wind and a great day of sailing . . . it all added up to a fun day on the water.
First crew of the season had us laughing all day. Plus, they brought the largest cooler that we've ever had aboard. Heaven forbid we should run out of food. Great day.
Fun talkative crew who enjoyed cool Fall winds out of the North in the morning, a little less breezy in the afternoon. A wonderful day to be out on the water. And did we mention being able watch the 2015 Turkey Shoot Regatta. Great way to end the season.
Well, this one was for the books. 20-25 kts. in the a.m., 3-6 kts in the p.m., then a 30+ kt. front right at the end of the day causing a problematic docking and a return to the river for an hour to wait it out. A true sampling of what sailors encounter from time to time. These folks, however, took it all like troopers. Great crew.
Nice steady wind in the a.m., followed by nice steady wind in the p.m. Add a skilled crew who did all of the work and you can't ask for more than that.
Three generations sharing good times on the water.
Very nice wind in the a.m., fair winds in the p.m. Lots of sailing and a bunch of great photos to be taken. A fun couple and a good time was had by all.
Well the morning didn't go as well as hoped - zero wind - but we did get to see that huge pod of porpoise. The afternoon, on the other hand, brought a very nice +20 kt. wind, which made for some great sailing. All in all, a nice day on the Rivah!
It was hot, but we had good wind in the a.m. and better wind in the p.m. Add to that an unexpected fountain of water from the deck shower and you have an enjoyable outing on the river.
Fun crew, great day on the river and bay. Particularly liked sharing the stories about "Kitty Witty" and "Fifi/Rambo."
This is our 2015 opening day, shakedown cruise crew. Overall, some
minor adjustments were needed, but things went moderately well. Unfortunately, there was little wind to speak of. Everyone had a good
time, however, and there is nothing better than a day on the water.
Nice Fall day for sailing and an eager crew. That docking, however, was a little rough :-)
Great family outing complete with a seaplane landing next to the boat. You just never know what's going to happen on the water!
A fun crew + some wind + moderate temperatures = A lovely day on the water.
Sunny, cool, and wind enough to sail. Ahhhhh.
What's a day without any wind? A motorized tour of the Rappahannock River, the Bay and Carter's Creek!!! These crew members were great sports about it, though.
Don't you just love it when the temperature drops to the 70's and the wind pipes up. Makes for a lovely September sail.
Fabulous wind, hot day and we got to recover two hats that went flying overboard as well. Great fun.
Strong winds in the a.m, Equally strong winds in the p.m. Then of course, there was that little thunder storm that decided to pop up.
The winds didn't cooperate as much as they could have, but we got good sailing for some of the day. Best of all, however, was seeing all the porpoises . . . or is that porpi?
The three "B"s - and a season high speed record of 8.0 kts. from the B in pink. Outstanding!
What a fabulous day to go sailing. Sunny skies, stiff breeze, and great company. It doesn't get better than this - except of course if you had a "rudder indicator." :-)
Lovely sailing. Overcast skies and a threat of rain in the morning. Turned from strong winds in the a.m. to moderate winds and sunny skies in the afternoon. Enthusiastic crew. There might be couple of serious future sailors in this group.
Great winds in the a.m., building in the p.m. Wonderful sailing and a great time had by all.
Sunny day, beautiful weather, but very little wind. Bummer. But they still had a great time.
Wonderful winds, great company, and the crew member who said, "Let me try steering" and proceeded to set the day's speed record.
Old shipmates, new shipmates, what could be better?
The shake-down cruise for 2014. Heavy winds followed by moderate winds ending with light winds. All with a light overcast and mild temperatures. A complete sampler of sailing. Great day, great crew.
Temperatures in the 90's with little wind. Isn't it supposed to be cool and breezy in October? Lucky we found some wind on the Bay.
The "Women's Sail" setting and trimming the sails and just relaxing.
Great winds all day. Lovely sailing and a wonderful ship's company.
Heavy winds in the a.m., settling down nicely in the afternoon.
Good time had by all.
Warm day, light winds, but good sailing. They seemed to like it - a lot.
Hot, little wind, but great company and a fun group.
